Very special thank you to Leah for this exclusive opportunity to interview and feature a funky, local LA boutique that caters to young trendy women like me (on a budget) ;-)

FG: Tell us what inspired you to open your own boutique/start your own brand?
GOM: Family business. I bought Gossip on Melrose from my stepmom and dad approx 10 years ago.

FG: What is your personal style?
GOM: I’m a t-shirt and jeans girl. I just like my things to fit well…clothes can swallow me right up!

FG: Who is your target customer? What is their style and lifestyle?
GOM: Everyday girl with an edge. A non-contrived personality who enjoys fashion but does not take it or herself too seriously.

FG: When did you know fashion was what you wanted to do for a living?
GOM: I didn’t actually. I just fell into and happened to enjoy it.

FG: What was your biggest challenge getting to where you are now?
GOM: Hmmmm….everything about running your own business is a challenge. :)

FG: How do you select the brands and merchandise for your store?
GOM: Quality, originality, price.

FG: What do you do to make your store/brand stand out amongst other boutiques/brands?
GOM: Putting items (outfits, adding accessories, etc) together that some might not “get” but be intrigued by. For some reason Japanese and French tourists that come in tend to really enjoy and understand the uniqueness we try to convey.

FG: If you can give any advice to young entrepreneurs, what would you tell them?
GOM: Network.

FG: Are you planning anything exciting for your brand/boutique/customers for 2011?
GOM: Promotions for those on our email list and facebook group – of course anyone can join them…just gotta sign up.

Behind The Scenes

No blogging for one week? I suck. Between the extreme craziness at work and trying to get as much production and development done before Chinese New Year (all factories in China shut down for about a month beginning this week), going in and out of a fierce funky flu, juggling the new bi-monthly giveaways and coordinating a fashion photoshoot in my home… it’s been an interesting week. I’m sucking at my New Year’s resolutions, particularly yoga, running, taking Meeko to the dog park/beach, and… drinking less alcohol. I’m hoping and aiming for February to be a better month for me, health-wise. Summer is around the corner and we cannot have a beer belly on the beautiful beach next to all these bodacious babes. So, I signed up with a Pilates studio a few blocks from my place and I’m stoked to get lean, for reals. I’m reminding myself every other day that my high school reunion is this year – motivation at it’s finest for this old lady.

The photoshoot was a huge success. This was the first time I’ve ever done anything like this (post college). It was so much fun being around so many beautiful and talented people all in one apartment for an entire day. So much positive energy, laughs, and moments where I screamed from being stunned by everyone’s creativity.

THANK U: Aileen Nham/makeup, Gercy Galang/hair, Jake Narciso & Daniel Scamporlino/photography, the 11 BLOGGERS for modeling, Last Chance Designer Outlet & Sixhundred La for letting us pull. Can’t wait to see all the amazing photos & blog posts by all the models! Thanks for all the positive energy & love put into this! XO, KL

For your viewing, here are a few behind the scene mobile cam pics snapped at the fashion photoshoot. Enjoy. Photos should be posted sometime this weekend.

The GQ Spring Style Preview

I can really appreciate a man with personal style. Most SoCal guys (read: San Diego) don’t have style. No offense. I can’t date a guy with better style than me, because competion is not in my nature and that would just be too weird to be with a man that gets excited everytime I want to stop by the mall. Nor can I date a dude with absolutely no sense of self presentation and even though most girls think it’s fun to dress up your man, I am not looking to take on any additional projects at this time.

Here’s some inspiration for accessorizing.

DTLA Artwalk & VB’s Birthday Celebration

I didn’t bring my cam this night, but enjoy these photos taken by all these awesome people!

Photos are linked to prospective albums pulled from.

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THEE VICTORIA BERRY :)

Can I just take a normal picture? Probably not likely. I’ve been obsessing over accessories for my head. I think I’ve played out all my hats and headbands in most photo ops lately, so I decided to wrap a leopard print scarf (via Express) around my dome because I think turbans are half amazing and half culturally beautiful.

Prada’s 2007 silk turban collection

I am very intrigued by this underrated trend. I love it, it’s so beautiful.

What other things can I put on my head? I’m also in love with my black tank top with ostrich feathers via TopShop. I will never get over animal prints and furry/feathery things… and shiny things.

Blue Stripe Overkill

H&M Gray long sleeve w/ blue pinstripes. Gap blue & gray block scarf. Anthropologie blue & black fingerless cut-off gloves.

I want to do more outfit/style posts this year but need to find the time and energy to style up and photograph myself. Any tips? Most mornings, I barely have enough time to dress myself, rather haphazardly, and walk my dog. I am getting lazy with utilizing my wardrobe. I am ashamed to admit that I have become, at work, the T-shirt and jeans girl, believe it or not. It’s like I have a real life alter-ego. Personally and fashionably, I dress up. At work, I wear the same 5 T-shirts and same 5 pairs of jeans, weekly. My two lives have become so differentiated that one of my co-workers looked at my Facebook and didn’t recognize me…

My brother got me this amazing tripod for Christmas and I have yet to break it in. Maybe I’ll go buy a white backdrop and set up a mini-studio in my room.
