FASHION MINGA at Boulevard 3 – LAFW

This coverage is super late, I know.

Life and the month of October was crazy. Work is a hustle, but so rewarding. Halloween in SD was a freakin’ blast, as usual, with amazing, wonderful, beautiful friends and family. Thoroughly appreciated my very first Los Angeles Fashion Week(s) events! Found my new place in the west side of LA, which is, excuse me for bragging, absolutely… gorgeous. A little (or a lot) sad that I only have 2.5 weeks left living in downtown LA. These city lights will be sorely missed. Sadder that I have to pack and move again. But so unbelievably ELATED I won’t be spending almost 3 hours a day in my car! Excited to purge my closets while I pack. Met some amazing new friends here in LA. Enjoying change. Looking forward to the holidays and gaining 8 pounds (one pound per week, starting now).

Enjoying Los Angeles more and more every single day.

Without further ado, here’s part of FASHION MINGA at Boulevard 3 – LAFW – Red Carpet Coverage (pictures) and the fashion show coverage (videos). Enjoy!

I hopped on the red carpet right quick ;-)

WHAT IS FASHION MINGA?

“Minga” is an Ecuadorian term for “a community coming together to work for the benefit of all.” Fashion Minga is a collaboration of designers, performers, and tastemakers coming together to celebrate the various components that inspire fashion: music, dance, color, shape and visual elements.

I’m so sorry for the shaky video clips! I think I had one too many drinks at this point in my evening. Enjoy, regardless!

WE ARE IN RESIDENCE

Rachel Salzman and Tracey Moulton were drawn together by their love for the simple and classic aesthetic.  They fell into friendship over a conversation about the fantasy of a boutique focused on unique, comfortable, and timeless clothes. A community driven space where fashion, art and commerce collide

Tracey Moulton was born and raised in New York.  She has a background in fine art, public relations, and more recently, opening her own successful vintage clothing store in New York City called Exquisite Costume Vintage. Her love for vintage continues, but she was ready for something more relevant and contemporary. Styling eventually brought her to Los Angeles where she met Rachel.

Rachel Salzman was born and raised in Los Angeles.  With a background and passion for entrepreneurship and fashion, she grew up in a family of retailers and has been working in the business as long as she can remember.  After graduating with an MBA from USC, she had a successful career with Madewell on the West Coast before moving on to pursue In Residence with Tracey.

Their eclectic fashion paths led them to meet and In Residence was soon born; a boutique for men and women that ignites passion for old and new, and provides an experience and sense of community to those who come through the doors.

In addition to fashion for men and women, In Residence will feature emerging artists.  A gallery, if you will, that will showcase a rotating group of artists that are not represented in a ‘mainstream’ or large gallery setting. The first artist on display will be photographer Tyler Udall: www.tylerudall.com. In Residence is about undiscovered gems, raw talent, and the line between art and commerce.

Current Obsession: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Currently, super obsessed over Joseph Gordon-Levitt after having watched Inception three times. Three times! I remember watching him as a kid on “3rd Rock from the Sun” thinking he was a skinny weirdo with longer hair than me — and then all of a sudden, he warped into uber-HOT-sizzling-MANhood right after filming (500) Days of Summer.

I know I’m about a year late on sharing this post (as this editorial came out via GQ October 2009), but it is most definitely worth the re-post for the following reasons:

1) I never cover menswear but all of these looks are classic, so damn clean.
2) I want to dress up a really cute boy like this. It would be fun.
3) Fall/Winter is upon us again, and these looks are still relevant for 2010.
4) Low-cost & high-style labels are always desirable.
5) The guys reading should appreciate the brands/prices, and the girls reading should appreciate the hotness.

PS – H&M and Gap are my absolute FAVE looks. Excuse me, while I go faint.

Fashion’s Night Out Los Angeles: Fergie at The Grove Nordstrom

Fergie Ferg signing autographs at The Grove Friday night for Fashion's Night Out Los Angeles

I was at The Grove Friday night for Two Point Oh LA‘s Bloggers’ Café (post coming shortly), and perused on by Nordstrom about 9pm to check out all the fuss. About 300 fans were shoulder to shoulder anxiously anticipating Fergie’s arrival. Security was definitely tight. After discretely elbowing my way through the crowd and flashing my Two Point Oh LA badge at multiple security, I was able to snap this vid of the diva’s grand entrance.

So cute, two little girls next to me… “Fergie! Fergie!… Okay, yell out, ‘We love you, Fergie’…”

Among so many celebs coming out with their own label, FERGIE FOOTWEAR is all about fun, funky style inspired by her rock star attitude. Definitely appealing to young tweens and teens, ages 12-18; and funky rockers of all ages. Here’s her new boot collection online… yikes… is it really time for boots already? Yes, and I need a new pair of over-the-knees (Women’s Carley) and wedges (Women’s Fallen). :)

Nicky Hilton tweets: “Love my new Jimmy Choo Uggs!”

Nicky Hilton tweets via TweetPhoto: “Love my new Jimmy Choo Uggs!”

Back in January, Jimmy Choo announced they were offering the solution for women who opt for comfort over fashion – with their version of the Ugg boot…. uh, eww.

Of course Ms. Nicky Hilton would give us the spoiler alert, and name drop that she gets designer pieces before the masses even get a chance to snag one in the stores. Hilton tweeted and showed off her new Jimmy Choo for UGG footwear, which isn’t supposed to hit stores until October 2010.

Ewwwwww. At Jimmy Choo for Ugg.

LOL. At Nicky Hilton!

No thank you. At this hideous winter boot.

Britney Spears, Candie’s, and Kohl’s

Miss Britney Spears, once America’s sweetheart, girl-next-door, turned good girl gone bad and bald… now branding herself once again to good, is hitting up the exclusive Kohl’s brand, Candie’s. Check her new project, lead fashion designer for the all-American department store Kohl’s. The limited edition, co-branded collection from Candie’s and Spears will debut tomorrow at select Kohl’s.

I’m a huge fan of multi-level branding and celeb designer collaborations and I truly do adore Spears, from the moment I saw her on the MMC… but, I just can get bald Britney, two kids and divorcing her loser hubby Federline, cootch  displayed for the paparazzi, image out of my head. Now, I don’t think this is a bad branding strategy by any means. I understand Kohl’s is capitalizing on her comeback from tabloid purgatory as her “Circus” album reached number one and Spears added two more chart-topping singles to her discography, “Womanizer” and “3.”

Also, I can’t get her ”comeback” MTV performance out of my head either, LOL!! Gimme, gimme…

“I wanted to design clothes that I would wear and my fans would wear. That was the most important thing to me,” Spears told WWD of her first-ever foray into fashion design. “I wanted to make both daytime casual looks and fun dresses to go out in at night. I met with the design team for Candie’s and Kohl’s, and we started making sketches and designed a line. I got to approve every single piece in the line. It was really a lot of fun.”

The Britney for Candie’s collection is being dubbed a limited edition collection, but it will be available in all 1,067 Kohl’s stores in 49 states. Its relative scarcity will be limited in that reorders will not be available once product sells out. The collection includes three deliveries, in July, September and October, with all merchandise retailing for $14 to $78.

Bebe to Launch ‘90210′ Clothing Collection

Bebe is on a roll. Just riding the heels of their recent collaboration with the Kardashians (which by the way, is the #1 searched keywords on my blog… weird) comes another collaboration, but this time with CBS Consumer Products to launch a collection based on the CW’s 90210.

The upcoming collection will debut along with the new episodes of the third season that will include styles worn by the series’ characters as well as products inspired by the series.

Manny Mashouf, founder of the retailer said of their new partnership this “makes perfect sense because there is a natural synergy between our Bebe brand and the adventurous energy and sexiness portrayed by the characters in the show.”
I haven’t watched any of the new 90210 epi’s because I’m too loyal to the OG 90210, so I don’t have much feedback in terms of the collaboration’s so called brand synergy. Sexy, I guess. I think I may be a little too old for 90210. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Bebe’s target demo women ages 25-35? Roughly. Do women ages  25-35 really watch 90210, a high school show? Hmmm? I could be wrong.

Sean John Founder, Sean “Diddy” Combs, said today, “I am overwhelmed and humbled by the recognition from such an iconic American retailer as Macy’s and we’re astounded by the opportunity that this exclusive deal gives the Sean John brand and all of our licensing partners. When I launched the Sean John brand over 11 years ago, we created the tag line ‘The Future of Fashion’ and today as we are announcing this partnership, I truly believe the future has arrived.”
