Hey There – PHAZE – Official Music Video

Last weekend, I had the inspiring pleasure of working with a rising young star, Phaze, and my good friend Peter Sobat of Sobat Music Group.  Signed to Sobat Music Group in 2012, Phaze has set an unprecedented bar of excellence that encompasses all the necessary ingredients of star status with his new mixtape “Dead Memories”.  More than just pulsating words on hypnotic beats, “Dead Memories” is a shining plethora of music at its best and promises to leave a lasting imprint on the game.  I was one lucky girl, working with two amazing and talented artists — I was also able to sit down with Phaze for an exclusive interview! Try not to eat your heart out, ladies.

What was your biggest inspiration for Dead Memories?
My biggest inspiration for Dead Memories was just to simply make good music that people can relate to… but at the same time, have an actual purpose.  Not just lyrics layered over a beat.

What musicians have influenced you the most? Why?
I believe Kanye has definitely influenced me the most just because of his pure creativity and attitude when approaching his music. He doesn’t care about other people’s opinions, which is a major aspect of creating great music.  Also, Kendrick Lamar & Wale who I think are just pure geniuses and are reinventing Hip-Hop right now.

Who is your target audience and what’s their music style?
I think my target audience is anybody who is just a fan of music.  And, of course, the ladies; I try to make music that appeals to both Genders. I think the style is just creative and feel good music with a message behind it all.

What was your biggest challenge getting to where you are now?
I think my biggest challenge, personally, was just getting people to take the time and listen to my music and what I had to say as an artist. Coming out of LA, a lot of people don’t really give you a chance unless the beat’s banging or it’s a club song.  But once people actually sat down and began to listen I feel like my music just spoke for itself.

If you can give any advice to young artists/entrepreneurs, what would you tell them?
I would say to keep working at it. There’s no better teacher than experience. As long as you’re working hard, with a pure heart, you’ll be good.

Are you planning anything exciting for 2012?
Yea! This year I’ll be dropping my first ever EP with all original content! I’m looking forward to actually getting out and doing some shows in my hometown as well.  So, this year should be really dope!

Los Angeles bred artist, Phaze, dropped “Nineteen Ninety Four” his first official Mixtape in the Summer 2011 and has been on a nonstop mission to the top.  His highly talked about appearance at the 2009 BET Awards Show has poised Phaze as Hip Hop’s next star.  With nearly 12,000 Twitter fans, Phaze is clearly trailblazing a path of imminent commercial success. His heart-stopping presence, unending arsenal of lyrics and serious work ethic, has garnered him global attention, most recently appearing in the prestigious editorial Vogue Japan.

Fashion’s Night Out Los Angeles: Fergie at The Grove Nordstrom

Fergie Ferg signing autographs at The Grove Friday night for Fashion's Night Out Los Angeles

I was at The Grove Friday night for Two Point Oh LA‘s Bloggers’ Café (post coming shortly), and perused on by Nordstrom about 9pm to check out all the fuss. About 300 fans were shoulder to shoulder anxiously anticipating Fergie’s arrival. Security was definitely tight. After discretely elbowing my way through the crowd and flashing my Two Point Oh LA badge at multiple security, I was able to snap this vid of the diva’s grand entrance.

So cute, two little girls next to me… “Fergie! Fergie!… Okay, yell out, ‘We love you, Fergie’…”

Among so many celebs coming out with their own label, FERGIE FOOTWEAR is all about fun, funky style inspired by her rock star attitude. Definitely appealing to young tweens and teens, ages 12-18; and funky rockers of all ages. Here’s her new boot collection online… yikes… is it really time for boots already? Yes, and I need a new pair of over-the-knees (Women’s Carley) and wedges (Women’s Fallen). :)

Britney Spears, Candie’s, and Kohl’s

Miss Britney Spears, once America’s sweetheart, girl-next-door, turned good girl gone bad and bald… now branding herself once again to good, is hitting up the exclusive Kohl’s brand, Candie’s. Check her new project, lead fashion designer for the all-American department store Kohl’s. The limited edition, co-branded collection from Candie’s and Spears will debut tomorrow at select Kohl’s.

I’m a huge fan of multi-level branding and celeb designer collaborations and I truly do adore Spears, from the moment I saw her on the MMC… but, I just can get bald Britney, two kids and divorcing her loser hubby Federline, cootch  displayed for the paparazzi, image out of my head. Now, I don’t think this is a bad branding strategy by any means. I understand Kohl’s is capitalizing on her comeback from tabloid purgatory as her “Circus” album reached number one and Spears added two more chart-topping singles to her discography, “Womanizer” and “3.”

Also, I can’t get her ”comeback” MTV performance out of my head either, LOL!! Gimme, gimme…

“I wanted to design clothes that I would wear and my fans would wear. That was the most important thing to me,” Spears told WWD of her first-ever foray into fashion design. “I wanted to make both daytime casual looks and fun dresses to go out in at night. I met with the design team for Candie’s and Kohl’s, and we started making sketches and designed a line. I got to approve every single piece in the line. It was really a lot of fun.”

The Britney for Candie’s collection is being dubbed a limited edition collection, but it will be available in all 1,067 Kohl’s stores in 49 states. Its relative scarcity will be limited in that reorders will not be available once product sells out. The collection includes three deliveries, in July, September and October, with all merchandise retailing for $14 to $78.

Robin Thicke At Club Nokia

Kat and I trekked up to LA last night to watch Robin Thicke at Club Nokia, we were about 45 minutes late but made it in time to watch Ryan Leslie open, but we missed Laura Izibor! :(

First of all, some douchebag with no insurance rear ended us! He gave us the following excuses to not call the cops:

1. I just got out of jail
2. I don’t have any insurance
3. This is my wife’s car, as u can see it’s all beat up
4. I’m broke
5. It’s Christmas
6. It’s not my fault (Supposedly, the person behind him hit him first, which made him hit us)
7. (And our favorite) GIVE ME A BREAK, MAN!

Ummmmm, yeah we took pictures of his car and Kat’s car and called the highway patrol and filed a police report! KYS!

Second of all, we were so hungry that we stopped by Subway and ate a footlong in under 10 minutes! CHAMPS!

Third of all, we got a little lost because there’s only like a gazillion and one freeways in LA!

So, Robin Thicke… *faint*

Stressed out, uptight, over worked, riled up… Unleash what you got, let’s explore your naughty side. Follow me, where we’re going, we don’t need no bread crumbs. Can’t you see, baby? You’re the only one…
