Bloggers Kick Off LAFW In Style

Once again the 100+ fashion, style and beauty bloggers of Two Point Oh! LA are set to kick off Los Angeles Fashion Weekin style with their third Pre-Fashion Week Party.

This seasons party, to take place at The Falls Lounge in Downtown Los Angeles, is not only designed to unite the blogging force within Los Angeles but introduce them to the fashion community at large creating a unified fashion industry within the city.

For the first time the Two Point Oh! LA Pre-Fashion Week party will not only serve as a networking opportunity for bloggers and industry professionals but will feature it’s own fashion presentations and awards. The group will honor the work of Mila Hermanovski, renowned costume designer and Project Runway runner up, who unveiled her Spring/Summer collection last season and Sarah Brannon of Chelsea Rebelle, a Los Angeles mainstay and celebrity (and blogger!) favourite on the LA fashion circuit.

This years event will also feature presentations from our sponsors You by Crocs and Modelwire, goodies from The Chocolate Box Café and the ever ubiquitous fashion week gift bag sponsored by XCVI.

I joined Tumblr last week and it’s a little overwhelming. I hate people who complain they are a newbie, so I’ll keep my whimpering short. End rant.

I swear I’m on every social media and/or fashion networking site there is. So far, from what I gather, Tumblr is like Twitter but for pictures, videos, media, etc… right? It’s not really considered a microblog like Twitter because there is no character limit to what you post, but it sort of is a microblog because no one really writes anything, or do they? All the people I’m following on Tumblr just post pictures. So it’s like a picture blog. It’s also highly viral as the reblog tool is so conveniently clickable. If the right people reblog your photo, it has the possibility to be reblogged on a thousand different blogs by next week. Kind of amazing.

If you’re on Tumblr, let’s be friends – http://thefashiongroupie.tumblr.com/

Break the Cycle’s Third Annual UnMasquerade

This weekend I’ll be pulling wardrobe from some amazing designers and getting fitted for next Friday’s BTCYP fashion show :) Nervoussss. I’ve said this a zillion times over, I’m definitely not the model type over here, but excited to support and participate in any way I can contribute to make any project a success. I want to become much more involved with as many different types of fashion events this year, particularly if it has to do with charity, volunteer work, networking, basically non-monetary cross-promo and just having fun with creative folks. I’m nervous!!

Break the Cycle is a Los Angeles-based, national nonprofit that engages, educates and empowers youth to build lives free from domestic violence. One in three teens experience abuse in a dating relationship. Two thirds of victims never tell anyone. Break the Cycle educates about the right to safe and healthy relationships. To date, their resources have reached more than one million youth. Visit breakthecycle.org to learn more.

COME SUPPORT!!!!! And let’s hope I don’t trip and fall on the catwalk ;-)

Target’s Newest Designer Collaboration (GO International)

…. Calypso St. Barth? (cricket…. cricket…)

You and I both have no idea who, or what this is.  After a quick google search, I discovered Calypso is a boho-hippie-chic brand whose target demo are mommies (or women ages 35-45) who summer in the Hamptons and winter in St. Barth’s — hence, the name.  The brand is expensive, sophisticated and classic… but something is just a little too safe for my taste. Obvs, I am not their customer, maybe I need to be a 39-year old soccer mom who goes to St. Barth’s or the Hamptons bling bling! Being a Cali chick, beachwear-inspired apparel is (or should be) my specialty… and I’m on edge with this collaboration, half way between loving and hating this.

The collection will be releasing for Target on May 1, 2011 and will include “clothing and accessories for women and children, plus home goods like candles, pillows and glassware.” Items max out at $79.99.

Hmmm… Target, where’s my Rodarte and Jean Paul Gaultier?

Despite my uninterest, or undecided interest, in this particular collabo, KUDOS to Target for keeping their merchandise mix… assorted.

Paulina López is an innovative brand that appeals to women who like to take risks. FASHION LOS ANGELES STEPS UP TO HELP

October 22, 2010 [Los Angeles, CA] – Less than 48 hours before its fashion presentation was set to begin, World Coast Management (WCM) cancelled its self-titled “Official LA Fashion Week” production. As a prompt solution to this cancellation, Fashion Los Angeles has organized a community movement through its Bloggers’ Café program, to ensure that the designers are given an opportunity to exhibit the fashions they have worked so hard to produce.

The Los Angeles Fire Department called off the WCM event due to several outstanding citations on the venue dating back to March 2010. This unpleasant situation left 18 local and international designers without a platform to present their SS2011 collections.

Fashion Los Angeles, the group behind the new Los Angeles fashion presentations set to debut February 2011, has joined forces with Two Point Oh LA, an organization that includes 80 of Los Angeles’ biggest fashion and beauty bloggers, led by Kelsi Smith, to offer the displaced designers an opportunity to meet with local media. The Bloggers’ Café event, known by the Twitter hashtag “#bc911,” will take place at Fashion Los Angeles headquarters [600 S. Spring St., Suite 1708 Downtown Los Angeles] from 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2010.

“There will be no exchange of money, there is no underlining agenda… we simply want the designers to show their work,” said Michael Venedicto, co-founder of Fashion Los Angeles. “We also hope that the designers do not perceive this to be a representation of the City of Los Angeles nor its fashion industry. Considering the current economic difficulties, it is the wrong time for a fashion presentation of this magnitude to be cancelled and for talented designers to be left stranded.”

Designers who are confirmed to present their works are Daisy Gonzalez, L’une, and Paulina Lopez from Mexico City. Since this is a community service event, individuals and groups able to donate time and products (models, hair, makeup, mannequins, etc.) should contact Fashion Los Angeles via email immediately at bloggerscafe [at] fashionlosangeles [dot] org.
